Spiti by motorcycle is as good as riding gets in Himachal: empty roads, river crossings, sharp light and monasteries on the hillsides. This loop starts and ends in Manali, with a night at Chatru, a day at Chandratal and Kunzum La and three nights in Kaza.
How high you sleep and travel through the trip. Gain height gradually and drink plenty of water.

Collect bikes and gear, go through the route briefing and take a short test ride towards Solang.
Through the Atal Tunnel, past Sissu and Gramphu, then along the Chandra river to Chatru. Rough road starts after Gramphu.
Ride the gravel road via Batal to Chandratal, then over Kunzum La into the Spiti valley and down to Kaza.
Key Monastery, Kibber, Langza, Hikkim and Komic. A day of short, high-altitude rides with plenty of stops.
Ride down the Spiti valley to Dhankar monastery and Tabo, then return to Kaza.
Return over Kunzum La, Batal and Chatru and through the Atal Tunnel. A long and tiring day.
Return the bikes. Onward travel from Manali.
