Beas Kund Trek
A short two-day trek from Dhundi to the glacial Beas Kund lake, surrounded by the Pir Panjal snow peaks.
A first snow summit in the Pir Panjal
Representative photos of the region.
Friendship Peak is a classic first summit for people who already trek and now want to learn real snow climbing. The route follows the Beas Kund valley to a base camp on the moraine, then uses a high camp for the summit push over snow and ice.
How high you sleep and travel through the trip. Gain height gradually and drink plenty of water.
Indicative plan. Road, weather and permit conditions can change the order or timing of days.
Meet the team, check your gear and attend the expedition briefing. Early night.
Drive through Solang to Dhundi and trek up through forest to the camp at Bakarthach.
Climb along the valley into the glacier basin and set up base camp near the moraine.
A rest and training day: walking in crampons, ice-axe arrest, rope handling and a short acclimatisation hike.
Carry up to a higher camp on snow, closer to the summit ridge. Early dinner and rest.
A very early start on firm snow, roped up for the final ridge to the summit at 17,350 ft, then back down to Base Camp.
Kept free for weather or a second summit attempt. If not needed, descend towards Bakarthach.
Walk down to Dhundi and drive back to Manali. The expedition ends in the afternoon.
